Razz is a stud poker variant is usually played for ace-to-five low method of lowball poker. Razz' objective is to build the lowest possible five card combination out of the seven cards dealt to a player. In Razz, aces play low and straight as well as flushes are considered not low. The likely best hand in Razz is the combination 5-4-3-2-A, or high-5, also called "the bicycle" or "the wheel".
Razz is played like a standard 7-card stud. It is also normally played as a bet limit poker which means that a preset amount of bet is agreed upon by players in each round. Players place an ante and receive two cards (hole cards) face down and another face up card or the "door card". A player holding the highest performing high card must "bring in"- placing the initial bet which amounts to half the normal bet.
In a situation herein two players own a similarly ranked door card; the bring-in will follow the suit order or ranking. Spades ranks first followed by hearts, then diamond and lastly clubs. The King of spades is likely the worst door card and is assured of putting the bring-in. Following a clockwise turn, the game continues.
When initial betting round ends, players who are till in the game were dealt another faced-up card. Then, the second round of betting starts with the player holding the lowest combination will show. This procedure continues till it reaches the fifth card, where the betting percentage doubled. The last card (7th card) is dealt face down. After every hand the deal turns starting from the left.
A sample Razz deal: Ali deals every player two cards faced down and a single face up card. Boy's card face up is a J, Carl receive a 3, Davis an A, and Ali a 4. Boy's J is a high card (Davis' A is low), so he gives a 1 dollar bring-in. Carl, Davis, and Ali all call. Hence Boy receives a 9, Carl another 3, Davis a 4, and Ali a 2. Davis'4-A is now the most excellent low combination showing, merely beating Ali's 4-2. Davis bets $1, Ali calls. Boy folds his J-9, furthermore Carl calls (his couple of 3s is the worst combination showing, but there are still many cards to come).
Ali now deals Carl an A, Davis a K, and himself an 8. The low combination showing is currently Ali's 8-4-2, so she wagers. $2. Carl increases to 2 dollars, and Davis folds. Ali calls, closing the round. Carl is now given a 6, and Ali another 8. Currently, the lowest combination showing is the cards 3-3-6-A which Carl holds, a couple 3s below Ali's 8' pair. He bets $2 so Ali calls.
The last face-up card is deal out. Carl again bets two dollars 2, and Ali calls. Ali reveals that her face down cards are 7-J-A, having 8-7-4-2-A her best hand. Carl reveals her face down cards as the combination 4-6-7, building her lowly five-card combination a 7-6-4-3-A, which earns the pot.
